There is little doubt the Jaguar E-Type S1 3.8 is one of the most beautiful cars ever built. It is also a very rewarding car to drive. Yet, for taller drivers – especially those over 1.75 meters – the driving position has always been a compromise. Over the years, many of our customers have asked us to adapt the original bucket seats in their Jaguar XKE 3.8. The awkward seating position and limited headroom detracted from the driving experience. However, to protect originality we were limited to subtle tweaks within the original design.
Seeking the definitive solution for early E-type owners we have reimagined the XKE 3.8 bucket seat, the way it could have been. Faithfull to the original aesthetics, measurements and construction principles, we developed a seat that offers significantly more headroom, enhanced ergonomics, and the kind of support and safety expected in a modern driving environment.
Let’s talk about headroom first. Anyone over 175 cm knows the problem: your head touches the roof. Our redesigned seat solves this by providing an additional 7 cm of headroom, comfortably accommodating drivers up to 1.90 m without forcing them to tilt or slouch. This improvement was made possible by redesigning the seat frame bottom and re-engineering the seat base insert and foam.
We also improved ergonomics. The original backrest angle of 16% has been increased to 20%, creating a more natural, comfortable driving position. To meet contemporary safety expectations, we integrated a discreet headrest and shoulder restraints for greater support during spirited driving.
The result is a seat that not only looks stunning but transforms the early E-Type into a truly enjoyable driver’s car. These bespoke XKE bucket seats are probably one of the most important upgrades to unlock the full potential of the early Jaguar E-Type as a gentleman’s express.
The seats are completely handcrafted in high carbon steel, point welded and reinforced with steel rods along the edges for overall strength and rigidity. The seats are galvanized to ensure they will stand the test of time.
Each high-back bucket seat is delivered with a steel seat base foam inlay. Seat base and backrest foams are not included but can be added.
